Environmental Labeling is an umbrella term that describes the various means by which companies disclose information on their environmental activities.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed standards for three types of environmental labelling programs:
- Type I: voluntary, multiple criteria based, third party program for a specific product or products.
- Type II: Any written or spoken environmental statement or claim. There are no set criteria, manufactures simply declare the information they wish to communicate about the environmental attributes of their products.
- Type III: Quantified environmental information about a product or service.
